#52 Photosynthetic Protist

Euglena have chloroplast which makes them photosynthetic. They also have contractile vacuoles which allows them to collect excess water and contract, pumping water out of the cell. This allows them to maintain homeostasis when place in a hypotonic solution because water diffuses into the cell. This pumping action is not a form of a passive transport because the cell has to use energy. The action is an active transport.
